Danny Wong Chinese Poker Wizard
Danny Wong was born in Hong Kong but moved with his family to the Los Angeles, California area when he was three years old. The rest of his childhood consisted of typical family activities, education, and time with friends. By age five he had learned to play Chinese poker with his family and became so good that he earned the nickname "Chinese Poker Wizard." Eventually, this led to an affinity for other poker games, and soon after he turned 18, he was playing poker online regularly.
During college, Wong played poker on the side, then graduated and was prepared to enter the job market as a stockbroker. During the time he was taking the necessary post-graduate tests, he began reconsidering his options. He knew his career would be stressful and time-consuming. When he traveled to his first World Series of Poker in August of 2006, he not only found the cash games to be lucrative, but he cashed in two tournaments. Then he took second at the Bellagio Cup main event for a $561,115 payday. He quickly made a decision to put his career on hold and play poker for a living.
Danny went on a roll. He won the Bellagio Five Diamond $2,500 no-limit hold'em tournament in December of 2006, and he made his first World Poker Tour final table several months later at the World Poker Challenge in Reno where he finished sixth. Most recently, he came away with a third place finish at the most recent WPT Bellagio Cup main event. Wong’s short but impressive resume has alerted the poker world that he is motivated, skilled, and ready to take on any tournament.
