David Robbins is a former mortgage broker turned poker player who lives in Columbus, Georgia with his wife Angel and their two daughters, ages thirteen and five. At first, David’s wife didn’t like him going out to play cards but she went with him once and watched a women’s tournament while he played in a different event. When she saw a 22 year-old lady win $27,000 Angel went and plopped down next to David and told him he had to teach her how to play. Now she’s hooked and as supportive as his poker buddies.

David has been playing poker for about two years. He started playing poker after watching the World Poker Tour on television. Now he plays regularly in a home game in Phoenix City, Alabama that hosts about forty players. He’s found that tournament play with professionals is different than playing with his friends. Robbins has said that he was pulled aside by “Captain” Tom Franklin who told him that he starts to speed up when he’s short-stacked. One of his best friends from home concurred and David followed their advice and slowed down and went back to playing his game.

Robbins wants to be known as a player who hold his own, and it when he buckles down and plays his game, which seems pretty tight, it appears he’s doing just that. His favorite movie is Dumb and Dumber, but he likes most comedies. David uses his great sense of humor at the table to loosen people (and their chips) up. He hopes that if they like him, they are more likely to lay down their hands. So keep an eye out for David on the World Poker Tour – he may be the one laughing his way to the bank!
