Erik Cajelais

Hometown: Montreal, Canada
Birthday: February 19
Total Winnings: $384,326

Former bartender Erik Cajelais started playing poker about ten years ago at home games with his brother and friends in Montreal, Canada. He also enjoys the camaraderie of sports, having played baseball for twenty years, hockey for ten and several years of body building. He said that on the poker circuit he had little time for working out, but recently started up again because he felt he was getting out of shape and that didn’t help his stamina for playing in tournaments.

Erik is good friends with Nam Le and was very excited for Nam’s 2006 Bay 101 Shooting Star championship win. He feels that winning a World Poker Tour title is a very important honor because it’s something that lasts forever. He has a keen sense for reading players when he’s in a hand with them and uses that skill to his advantage.

Cajelais says that he likes to play very aggressive, putting pressure on the other players to force them into bad decisions and mixing up his game to keep them off balance. His strategy has served him well - in recent years he’s cashed in at least three WSOP events and nine World Poker Tour events including the 2005 Borgata Poker Open, 2005 & 2006 World Poker Finals, 2006 Five Diamond World Poker Classic and the 2007 Borgata Poker Open. This highly respected player has accumulated winnings of over a million dollars and it doesn’t look like he’s going to slow down any time soon.
