Born in the Central Valley of California, “Captain” Tom Franklin has made his way from one fertile valley to another, currently residing in Gulfport, Mississippi with his wife. They have five children and nine grandchildren. During Hurricane Katrina, Tom’s home was pretty beat up. Tom credits the support of his friends and his helpful insurance company for getting him back into his home in two months. Tom started playing poker in 1970 and nearly four decades later is still actively accumulating money finishes on the professional tournament circuit.

“Captain” Tom earned his nickname because of his pilot training, he loves to fly, play golf and really enjoys music from the 50’s and 60’s. He’ll even sing occasionally and likes to bang on a drum set when he gets a chance. Though he may be a talented musician, it seems that Tom’s true expertise lies in poker. He’s been navigating the shark filled waters of the WSOP and World Poker Tour events for years, playing a variety of poker styles and constantly improving his game.

Tom won a WSOP bracelet in 1999 for playing in the $2,500 Limit Omaha event. He has also made the final table in WSOP no limit $10,000 event a number of times. Tom often commands the tables and he has proven that he is a tough competitor who is regularly adapting his game. Although he’s finished in the money at several World Poker Tour events, the Season 6 Gulf Coast Poker Championship at the Beau Rivage is where he makes his final table debut!
